
Dr. Romel Mackelprang is a Professor in Social Work and the Director of the Center for
Disability Studies and Universal Access at Eastern Washington University. Prior to
beginning at Eastern Washington University in 1987 he was a social worker at the
University of Utah Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a clinical
faculty member with the School of Medicine and School of Social Work from 1980-1987.
Dr. Mackelprang received his DSW from the University of Utah in 1986.
He also holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a MSW from the University of Utah.
Dr. Mackelprang has been a member of the SILC since 2004. He was a member of the Governor's
Advisory Council on HIV/ AIDS from 1991-2004. He co-authored the 1999 text,
Disability:
A Diversity Model in Human Practice, and has numerous publications dealing with disability,
health care, human sexuality, and diversity.
